Outdoors for our Heroes

Outdoors For Our Heroes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on providing service-connected disabled veterans the opportunity to hunt for a wide variety of animals on quality properties for lifetime experiences.

Our team consists of volunteers, donors, and corporate sponsors that share a passion for hunting, the outdoors, and the desire to enable our service-connected disabled veterans the best opportunities to get out and hunt on quality properties with people who ultimately respect our heroes. It is our obligation to take care of those service men and women that make it home and provide them with hope, optimism and motivation through hunting experiences.

We are an all-volunteer organization. Our staff does not collect any personal monetary compensation for their time. All donations received go to support the outdoor activities.

Outdoor Experience for All

The concept for The Outdoor Experience 4 All was conceived in late 2007. Although there are charitable organizations whose focus is offering hunts to terminally ill children, they tend to focus on hunts that require extensive travel and time commitments. We recognized that there were many families of children with life-threatening illnesses who could not take an extended hunt. Many of these families have other children, and long for an experience that could involve the entire household or even extended family. Due to the prohibitive cost and time involved with interstate travel, we realized that our focused needed to be on Arizona families.

After many months of planning we were able to put our first hunt together in September of 2008. Not knowing how it would go we decided for our first hunt to call on a youth we already knew who would qualify for a big game tag transfer. We had hunted with Thomas Widenhofer during a 2007 elk hunt and we had a strong relationship with his family so he was a natural choice. Thomas agreed to be our first hunter and with many months of planning he arrived with the hopes of harvesting an Arizona antelope. Within the first hour of the hunt Thomas had harvested a nice antelope that measured 84 4/8. The sense of accomplishment felt by everyone involved lit a fire and The Outdoor Experience 4 All was off and running!

From September of 2008 till the end of the year we were able to do one antelope hunt, four deer hunts, and five elk hunts, and took two children with autism fishing. After the fishing trip we realized that we should not limit this organization just to youths who have been diagnosed with a life threatening illness, but also offer an outdoor experience to those who have disabilities, non-life threatening illnesses, and the children of our fallen heroes. So in the fall of 2008 we became officially incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3.

The mission of the Outdoor Experience 4 All (OE4A) is to change lives one adventure at a time. Everyone who participates in an OE4A adventure, including volunteers, sponsors, parents, and siblings leaves camp with a new outlook on life!

The Outdoor Adventure Foundation

The Outdoor Adventure Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non profit foundation providing hunting and fishing adventures for children and young adults under the age of 25 with cancer or other life threatening illness, also providing adventures for combat disabled veterans under the age of 40 that are wheelchair bound or missing a limb due to active duty service.

Operation Tackle Box

Our mission is to help our veterans heal through fishing and help them get on track with their benefits they are entitled to. Taking veterans on camping trips, fishing tournaments, fishing expos, and anything else we can provide to help our warriors!

Operation Second Chance

Heroes Ridge is situated close to Gettysburg on a mountain top, providing rest and relaxation to wounded injured and ill veterans and their family members. The 275 acre facility has four cabins, a dining hall, recreation center, pool and pool house, horses, an outdoor arena, and miles of trails for ATV, riding, horseback, riding, and hiking.

Operation Reboot Outdoors

Operation ReBoot Outdoors is a 501c3 non-profit organization that concentrates on getting Veterans, LEOs, and service members out of the house and into nature, providing healing through hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreational activities. We do not turn anyone away here at ORO. If there is a Veteran who needs a reboot, who served honorably or are currently serving our country, they qualify for our services. We are thankful for our ability as Veterans and Registered Maine Guides to help other Veterans reset their back azimuth to True North.

Operation Pay It Forward

To show our appreciation for our fighting veterans by connecting them with others that share the same passions and are willing to get them into the outdoors and enjoying life again. We challenge all of the veterans that participate to “Pay It Forward” by spreading the word to their brothers and sisters that need help or could use some time in the outdoors to re-focus their minds on the important things in life!

Operation Pay It Forward was formed to help our returning warriors overcome the injuries and demons they brought back with them from combat. Our goal is to introduce or reintroduce these veterans to the outdoors and the associated healing effects and comradery that comes with it. These soldiers are then given a new mission – to connect with their veteran brothers and sisters that need help and involve them in OPIF’s mission to “pay it forward” to their brothers and sisters in arms.
